I use Speedplay frogs and when I installed the cleats a couple of years ago I seem to recall that they said NOT to use them with sandals. I hear from several people that they DO use them with Shimano sandals. Now that I am interested in the Keen sandals I would like to know more about this. Assuming that I remember correctly, does anyone know the reason for this warning?

I just checked with the Speedplay tech site and they do say that the frog pedals you have should not be used with sandals due to:
"oversized toebox hits crank arm preventing release."
This must be somewhat unique to this pedal system -- I haven't run into this situation before. I'm sure that people use their own judgment when it comes to heeding this advice (thank you legal system!), but Keen's definitely have a wide toe box so I would caution you against using them together. Sorry!

Despite what Speedplay says about using Frog pedals with sandals (and I think it refers to the old Shimano and Lake sandals, which are extremely wide) I have used Frogs with Keen sandals on 4 different bikes quite successfully, and without any modifications to the shoes.

All of my bikes have Frogs, and I have no problems wearing the Keen sandals with any of them. I love the Keens so much that I just bought Keen bike shoes now that the weather is getting cooler.

I have used the Lake sandals with them as well and they were not so good with the Frogs but I've never had a problem with the Keens.
