Hi, I'm 5' tall and my inseam (barefoot) is 28". What size touring bike should I be looking for? If I can't bring myself to splurge on a NEW Madeleine, what are comprable older models of touring bikes that might be available used (looks like used Madeleines are very hard to come by)? Thanks for your help.

Hi,
I'm also 5' tall, but my barefoot inseam is closer to 26". I have a 16" Madeleine, about 3 years old, steel frame with the straight bars, and it is great. The Terry gals are the experts on fit, but I'm guessing that 16 would work for you also. I have my saddle almost as low as it can go. Check the specs for standover height.

The Terry Classic made a few years ago was also set up for touring and you might be able to find one of them.

Good luck and good riding
Judy T

Hi!

Last year, I did a week long biking trip through Sonoma County, California, north of where I live. It was my first time riding a bike in about 10 years, and before that, I'd ridden mostly mountain bikes. So I had no idea how to buy a road/touring bike.

I looked around for a long time, because I'm just 4'10". I wound up buying a Giant OCR-3W (XXXS!) as a touring bike. It does really well with distances of up to about 40 miles. Beyond that, I don't find it comfortable. It did well with two panniers and a rack trunk with about 45 pounds of gear. I could even climb some pretty steep climbs with relative ease.

But, now, it's time for a more serious road bike, because I'm getting into Century rides...so for that, I'm looking to a new Terry...finally ready to graduate to one! : )

Happy touring,
Susan

I currently ride a Giant OCW. It is okay for rides 20-25 miles but after that I have sleeping hands, pain in shoulders and between shoulder blades. I have had this bike fitted by professionals twice. I have had back surgery L5-S1 fusion which does not usually hamper riding but I think sitting more upright would be more comfortable. I ususlly ride 24-30 miles daily in warmer weather. I am 4'11'' with 27 inseam. I like to ride 42 in bike rides (no racing) but am a slower rider because of the bike being so uncomfortable not to mention that hills hurt. I am open and ready to purchase a bike that fits. Your comments and suggestions, please.

There's a lot to discuss here and I think it's best done with a few emails. I need to send you a request for some information that will help me visualize you on the bike.

Please email me: georgena@terrybicycles.com

Thanks!
