Please won't someone come up with some good affordable (as opposed to $250) bib shorts for women that come up the center with the straps?!?!?! I sewed upt up the Boure's I got last year (and if nothing else presents itself I will have to do it again so I'll have two pair), and had to send back the Nalini's I'd found that have the right idea due to super-thin material and cardboard chamois. Most other women's bib shorts manufacturers seem to not notice that a good many women have these things called "breasts" and like to route their straps right up the center of each one (a most uncomfortable situation, hence the sew-job on the Boure's) or to the outer sides of them (my poor armpits cringe at the thought). Is it too much to ask for a pair of bibs that take the sensible direction right up in between the aforementioned parts of the anatomy? Could we get some shorts that sport a bib top similar in design to the Gore bib tights Terry sold this winter??? Please???

Just curious - but what do you see as an advantage to having bib shorts over regular shorts?

Well, for starters bib shorts are FAR more comfortable as they don't have a waistband that pinces uncomfortably around the waist. My size tends to fluctuate a bit depending on the time of month and how much I've been able to ride, and if I'm having a "fat day" or am bloated I don't feel as uncomfortable in the bibs as I do in shorts (in fact, I don't feel uncomfortable at ALL---on days like that it used to be enough that I just wouldn't ride, now I don't have that excuse).

They also give me a slimmer look than plain shorts since the bibs don't have a compression around the waist. but flow straight on through. :D

I went ahead and ordered another two pair of the Boure's and sewed them up the middle. They're wonderful! But I still wish that Terry (or SOMEONE) would come out with a pair already designed like that, since their shorts fit snugger in the seat than what I've managed to get with the Boure's. Still, I like these well enough that now I don't wear regular bike shorts anymore, despite having a drawer full.

The only drawback to bibs is going to the bathroom in the woods. You have to take your arms out of your jersey to get the straps down. Other than that, BIBS RULE! (And quite frankly having to go to the bathroom in the woods sucks anyway, bibs or no bibs. :(

This is an old post, but for what it's worth, Hincapie is now making a women's bib short with the centered straps, the Metric. Here is the link:

The only pair of bib shorts I have tried is the Pearl Izumi Microsensor bib (now the P.R.O. bib). They are very comfortable and I love the fabric, which is sleek and has some compression. The chamois is thinner and not overbuilt, but I'd like it a tad wider. Bathroom breaks are a pain, but try to plan well! The straps have a center clip to keep them from slipping off, but I usually don't use it.
