My husband and I are planning on doing our first long distance tour this fall. I was only planning on bringing 2 pairs of bike shorts and I was wondering the best way to keep my chamois clean? I don't usually wear underwear when riding, but I won't really be able to do more then rinse my shorts each night (if that). I was wondering what other people do on long distance tours to keep clean and sanitary? Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Take a bottle of rubbing alcohol with you and use it. It evaporates quickly and kills germs.

I've toured quite a bit and never had a problem washing out my shorts. I only travel with 2 pair no matter how long the trip. I carry a small bottle of laundry detergent and always manage to find water somewhere to wash them out, then hang them off my panniers to dry while riding. Wear a pair and have a pair drying. I also carry those little personal towellettes to use if I need to. If you're camping remember to use environmentally friendly low sudsing detergent. But let's face it, after awhile, you're gonna stink. The good thing is everyone with you will stink and you won't notice yourself!

I have been on several self-contained trips both camping and moteling. Obviously, it will be easier to wash and dry your shorts at a motel but you can always stop at a laundramat to dry your shorts (and other clothing) as you pass through a town. I have never had a problem finding a laundramat and some campgrounds also provide laundry areas. mm
